Candler Park—An eclectic, fun place to live.
Candler Park is a beautiful park with a wide list of amenities surrounded by a community that is designated as the Candler Park Historic District and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is home to many interesting shops, talented individuals, night life, and eclectic architecture.
In 1922 Asa Candler, of Coca-Cola fame, donated 55 acres on the east side of Atlanta to be used as a public city park. As one of Atlanta’s first neighborhoods, the area has an interesting past which includes the rich history of the working class African American. Candler Park is a convenient location that is accessibility to all that is going on in Atlanta.
For outdoor play it doesn’t get any better than Candler Park with its well-kept tennis courts, large playground, swimming pool, nine-hole golf course, basketball courts, and football / soccer field. For indoor play you are just minutes from everything you could possibly want to do in Atlanta. Located a short distance away is the Woodruff Arts Center, the fully restored historic Fox Theater, the High Museum of Art, the Center for Puppetry Arts, the Atlanta Ballet, Laughing Skull Lounge Comedy Club, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Cultural events such as the annual Atlanta Arts Festival, Music Midtown, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, Festival Peachtree Latino, Atlanta Pride, and the Peachtree Music Festival are also close at hand. Each year the Candler Park Neighborhood Organization holds an annual festival attended by approximately 10,000 people in the park known as Fall Fest. The festival includes an artist market, a tour of homes, a 5K road race, activities for children, and live music.
Restaurants and Shopping
Excellent restaurants can be found throughout Candler Park. You can enjoy bar-b-que at Fox Brothers, have a perfect meal at the acclaimed Flying Biscuit, brunch at Radial Café, have a burger with beer at The Vortex, or check out the micro-brew at The Wrecking Bar. Some really great, eclectic shopping can also be found in this area starting with music at Criminal Records or treasure hunting for vintage finds at Rag-o-Rama.
Residents of Candler Park send their children to Mary Lin Elementary, Inman Middle School which is a National School of Excellence, and Henry W Grady High School designated as a Communication Magnet School, a Health Science Academy, a Fine Arts Academy, and a Travel / Tourism Academy. Also located nearby is the Georgia Institute of Technology, John Marshall Law School, Georgia State University, Emory University, and the Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta campus.
The MARTA Rapid Transit serves Chandler Park via the Edgewood / Candler Park Station.
